Apple iPhone 2G: Video Shows it Running Google Android
A video has recently emerged which shows Google’s Android operating system running on the Apple iPhone 2G, this video has been embedded at the end of this post and lasts 9 minutes, at the moment “PlanetBeing” (the name of the hacker/developer) has not took time to develop iPhone 3G and 3GS versions, however it seems as if it will be ported in the future.
Firstly the video shows the handset is fully functional running iPhone OS, he then turns off his handset, turns it back on and is greeted with the choice of two OS’s (via OpeniBoot), one of the choices allows you to boot straight into iPhone OS, the other lets you boot into Android.
To make this possible the handset uses a Linux kernel, the boot time is a little slow as expected, however approximately 90 seconds later you are greeted with the Android home screen.
It looks as if PlanetBeing has put a lot of work into this build, the video shows that the battery level and signal indicator seem to work fine, not only this but the handset’s internal WiFi can be utilized within Android too.
Once connected to his wireless network he uses the handset’s browser to access Reddit.com, the page load time is pretty quick considering, also the video shows the handset playing music and receiveing a Skype call.
I must admit when I saw the title of this YouTube video I was extremely sceptical, however I am pleasantly surprised at how functional this release is, if you would like to find out more and perhaps install Android on your iPhone 2G check out the link below, there are also details as to how you can donate towards the project.
